Bunni Williams (they/them)

Director of Outreach and University Relations

Hey! I’m Bunni, and I’m excited to step into the role of Director of Outreach & University Relations! I am a fourth year Sociology and Indigenous Studies major, from the unceded territories of the Katzie, Semiahmoo and Tsawwassen peoples whose relationship to the land is ongoing. I’m passionate about improving diversity and inclusion within the UVSS so that we strengthen and serve all UVic students to the best of our ability. I believe that radical love and a strong sense of community are powerful methods of transformation that I want to lead with in my role.

Director of Events

Sarah Buchanan (she/her)

Director of Events

Hi I’m Sarah! I moved to Victoria in 2020 from Calgary, Treaty 7 territory — specifically Tsuu T’ina land. Since then, I’ve been pursuing a degree in Sociology, and working as a part of the UVSS board to some degree or another.

I had a lot of fun last year, and I’m looking forward to doing it again! Some highlights have been starting the monthly hot lunch program, assisting Gem with Sexpo, and putting on Campus Kickoff! I’ve learned so much, there’s and this year promises to be better than the last. I’ve got big plans for my second go, and I’m so excited to see how they come together.

I’m also looking forward to advocating for students as best I can this year! It’s a tough spot we’re in with the rising cost of rent and groceries, and academics taking up so much of our time — not only is supporting ourselves through university getting more difficult, the amount of work required hamstrings our education by not allowing us the space to properly engage with our courses. I hope to continue my events aimed at lessening this pressure — the clothing swaps and hot lunches — as well as taking advantage of the upcoming elections to pusxh the province to adopt better affordability policies and better take care of its citizens. It’s a tough issue, but I’m looking forward to working with my talented coworkers on this.

Outside of work I love kickboxing and playing my guitar, and I’m always happy to go for a little adventure if it calls. When I’m relaxing I love to play games — slay the spire being my longtime favourite. I also love picking up weird little hobbies, like tumbling, unicycling, and blunted balisong tricks.

Through the year, please feel free to pop by my office anytime — I love meeting people, and I’m always happy to have a chat. Besides that, I can’t wait to see you all at our events!

Director of Campaigns & Community Relations

Izzy Easton (she/her)

Director of Campaigns & Community Relations

Hey UVic! I’m Izzy Easton. I am your UVSS Director of Campaigns and Community Relations and come from Treaty Four Territory — the traditional land of the Cree, Assiniboine, Saulteaux, Metis, Dene, Dakota and Lakota peoples. By affirming where I come from and recognizing the land I now work on, I acknowledge my historical and ongoing role in colonization and the benefits I reap from the land and its traditional peoples.

I am going into my second year at UVic as a Political Science student which drives my passion to continue to learn the inner workings of government and policy so I can effectively lobby for you. I am passionate about uplifting voices that are too often left unheard, prioritizing lived experience, creating change that is tangible and accessible and loving the people around me.

My favourite colour is orange, I love the smell of books and I put honey in my coffee. The smiles of people I love are the best part of my day. Serving you is an honour and a privilege and with this opportunity, I plan to take steps toward a safer, more affordable and healthier community for you and the future of the UVSS.

Khushi Wadhwa (she/her)

Director of Finance & Operations

Hey! My name is Khushi Wadhwa and I am grateful to be able to serve as UVSS Director of Finance and Operations again:) If you see me running around in the SUB, please say hi! I have worked with clubs on campus, departments at UVic and for the past year at the UVSS. I am an international student from India as well so I try to bring a lot of different lenses to the role and issues we tackle.

I ran again to implement some ideas I think would benefit our membership and help in maintenance of operations. My door is always open to questions, new ideas and rants (and even book recommendations)!

In my free time, I like to read (fiction and finance; mostly fiction lol), have a good cup of coffee and scroll on pinterest for a creative outlet. Please come by or reach out via email with any questions:)

Hemal Sharma (he/him)
Director of Student Affairs

Hello! My name is Hemal Sharma, and I am the Director of Student Affairs! Originally from Punjab, India, I grew up in Calgary on Treaty 7 territory, but the ocean called and I answered by coming to UVic! I’m excited to support Course Unions, Clubs, Faculty Student Societies (FSSs), Advocacy Groups, and the Native Students Union (NSU). I believe these groups are the backbone of what makes the University of Victoria special. Supporting them will be my pleasure.

If you have any questions, comments, concerns, ideas, or if you just want to chat, don’t hesitate to contact me at affairs@uvss.ca or drop by the SUB. I look forward to hearing from you!

Harshita Sankar (she/her)

Director of International Student Relations

Hi everyone! My name is Harshita and I am a third-year computer science student. Born in India and raised in Japan, I aim to use my diverse experiences to improve your university life in Canada as your Director of International Student Relations. Coming to Canada solo in 2022, I have firsthand experience of (unfortunately) many common issues international students face such as culture shock, housing, work, visa, food insecurity, loneliness, etc. Therefore, I aim to bring awareness of the many helpful on-campus resources and bring visibility to international culture and talent through many fun events!

I strive to advocate for improving the international student life at UVic while potentially implementing more resources students would want to see on campus. So I would like to hear from you all! I love meeting new people and would love to hear your perspectives. If you have any questions, concerns, suggestions, or simply someone to talk to, please feel free to reach out, send me an email, or even drop by the SUB for a quick chat 🙂

Directors at Large

Elena Richardson (she/her)
Director-at-Large (DaL)

Hey! My name is Elena and I am super excited to be serving as a DaL for the next year.

I grew up on the traditional unceded territories of the lək̓ʷəŋən and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples and have been at UVic for the past three years studying Psychology and Art Education. I am looking forward to contributing to student life on campus by advocating for student needs and ideas while I’m a part of the UVSS board of directors. I ran for this position because there is a lot of room for improvement when it comes to how UVic supports its students and I want to help change that.

While I’m not at UVic I spend most of my time either doing pottery or zooming around outdoors. I’m looking forward to meeting more of the UVic community so please say hi if you see me around campus 🙂

Yee Fan Anastasia Crook (she/her)
Director-at-Large (DaL)

Hi! My name is Anastasia, from the vibrant city of Hong Kong. As a Political Science and PAAS major, I am very passionate about domestic migrant workers’ rights, wealth inequalities, and political participation in Asia, as well as diplomacy between the East and West. Beyond academia, I volunteer with a local NGO to fundraise for our sponsor school in Kenya. Otherwise, you can find me relaxing in the sunset at Glencoe Cove-Kwatsech Park, exploring thrift stores, hitting the gym, or experimenting with fusion cuisines. I am pleased to be serving you and will advocate for my campaign promises throughout my term as your DAL. I am so eager to hear your thoughts and visions for our university, so feel free to reach out! I’m always open for a chat 🙂

Noah Letourneau (he/him)
Director-at-Large (DaL)

Howdy! I’m Noah, a mechanical engineering student at UVic. Originally from Calgary, Alberta, I’ve called Victoria home for 8 years. As a Métis and engineering student, I hope to offer unique perspectives from multiple communities, and I’m excited to represent fellow students, particularly those in clubs, organizations, and engineering and computer science programs. I aim to enhance accessibility to the student government and ensure your voices are heard as we work towards a brighter future through the youth of students.

“You cannot predict the future, but you can invent it!” – Dennis Gabor

Aidan Dias (he/him)
Director-at-Large (DaL)

Cale Goldsand (he/him)
Director-at-Large (DaL)

Nora Keegan (she/her)
Director-at-Large (DaL)

Hi! I’m Nora and I’m one of your Directors At Large! I’m in my 2nd year at UVIC, in Engineering with a minor in Ocean Science. I grew up in Calgary, on Treaty 7 territory. I’m so excited to contribute to the UVSS this year to help continue the work that the UVSS is doing to make UVIC better for all students! Some of my hobbies are hiking, baking, figure skating and reading. If you ever see me around campus feel free to say hi!

Audrey Gaulin (she/her)
Director-at-Large (DaL)

Hi, my name is Audrey and I’m one of your Directors at Large! I’m currently going into my third year of Psych, having transferred from Camosun. During my time on the board, I will focus my advocacy work on creating better advertising for UVic resources such as library spaces and Finnerty Gardens to improve student experience. In addition I will be providing a voice for under-represented minorities and fellow CAL students, and better aligning UVSS policy with other on campus organizations such at EQHR. Overall, I hope to foster stronger relationships between students, campus organizations, and the UVSS board as a whole.

Emily Eymundson (they/she)
Director-at-Large (DaL)

My name is Emily Eymundson and I am an uninvited settler living on W̱SÁNEĆ Traditional Territory. It is my honour to serve as a Director-At-Large on UVSS. I am committed to accessibility and equity, especially for folks in the disability community and BIPOC folks.

Megan Indya Dhillon (she/her)
Director-at-Large (DaL)

The very nature of learning is innate. Our thirst for knowledge can never quite be quenched, as the mind will not be satiated until it has fully realized its potential. I am a third year Psychology student with a sociological minor; I believe these fields assist me in understanding the needs of our community and provide a strong basis to direct effectively! A bit of my background includes living in Victoria for my university experience; I previously led in my high school through an elected Student Council position in which I learned, first-hand, how to make the needs of the student body heard. My passion for social justice provides an informed and knowledgeable grounding. At UVic, my intentions are to carefully listen to the concerns of students with an open mind.

Gretchen Lewandowski (she/her)
Director-at-Large (DaL)

Hello! My name is Gretchen and I am a 4th year biomedical engineering student from Nelson BC on the land of the Ktunaxa Forst Nation’s. I am passionate about being outdoors including hiking, climbing, soccer, and skiing. I look forward to being a part of the UVSS!

Cate Freeborn (she/her)

Society for Students with a Disability (SSD) Representative

Cate Freeborn serves as the Advocacy Representative for SSD, working with the Board of Directors and other members of the UVSS to further the interests of disabled and neurodivergent students at UVic.

A fourth-year major in Writing, Cate found herself drawn personally and politically to disability justice following her late diagnoses with autism and ADHD. In her time at SSD, she seeks to advocate for academic accessibility and improvements to material conditions for disabled students, as well as to carve out inclusive and educational social space (including support groups, community events and programming, and so forth).

She’s often seen lingering around the SUB, listening to too-loud music or willing away all her money at Munchie Bar.

Prym Goodacre (she/they)

Gender Empowerment Centre (GEM) Representative

Howdy champions! My name is Prym, and I’m a fifth year humanities student here at UVic. I was born in and currently live in Victoria on the unceded and unsurrendered lək̓ʷəŋən and W̱SÁNEĆ territories. As the Gender Empowerment Centre board representative, I’m excited to work with the GEM, the board, and all the advocacy groups to continue building our wonderful community and keep up the radical and liberatory work this collective has been doing for so long. Come on by the GEM any time to say hi, ask questions about the advocacy group, or just hang out!
