The SUB is home to our four Service Groups: the Anti-Violence Project (AVP), theUVSS Food Bank, the Info Booth, and the Peer Support Centre (PSC). Each group provides vital support and resources to UVic students, from harm reduction and community care to free food access, peer connection, and campus navigation.
These groups exist to make student life more accessible, equitable, and supportive. We encourage you to visit their spaces, learn more about the services they offer, and get involved in the work they do for our community.
Anti-Violence Project (AVP):
The Anti-Violence Project (AVP) is committed to addressing and ending gender-based and sexualized violence on campus and beyond. AVP strives to provide anti-oppressive and sex-positive services, advocacy and action to people of all genders on and off-campus, in order to address and resist all intersecting forms of violence. AVP offers free support services that strive to acknowledge all of the complexities of gender-based violence in a confidential and person-focused setting. AVP supports people who have experienced gender-based violence, people who are supporting a survivor of violence, as well as people who have caused harm and seek to change their actions.
We have staff and a team of volunteers who are trained to provide emotional support and to connect people with relevant resources and referrals, including advocacy, community, counselling, health and/or legal services. As AVP transitions back to in-person services, the phone support line will remain available for the first school term.
Please visit our website or social media accounts for support updates throughout the year. Additionally, AVP offers free educational workshops, social action, and awareness initiatives throughout the year. AVP’s two main workshops offered year-round are Understanding Consent Culture and Supporting a Survivor. Please stop by the office or call AVP to find out more about the programs, services, and volunteer opportunities.

UVSS Food Bank:
The UVSS Food Bank is a vital, student-run service committed to supporting University of Victoria (UVic) students experiencing food insecurity. Each week, eligible students are able to access a hamper of fresh and non-perishable groceries, hygiene and personal-care items, including eggs, milk, bread, canned goods, fresh produce and menstrual products.
Located in the SUB (Room B005), the Food Bank offers a confidential, respectful space where students of all backgrounds can get the essentials they need while focusing on their studies and wellbeing. Note: Access is for active UVic students who have paid the relevant student fees, and visits are by appointment after completing the weekly hamper request form.
More than just a food service, the UVSS Food Bank actively strives to reduce the stigma around accessing support, create a safer inclusive space for students, and raise awareness about campus food insecurity. If you’re a student in need, a volunteer looking to help, or a donor wanting to make a difference, the UVSS Food Bank is here, and you’re not alone.
