Meet The Facilitators:
Depression Support Group:
Hi there! My name is Kayden (she/her) and I am a fourth year BioPsych student. This is my first time volunteering with the Peer Support Centre but I also currently volunteer at the Harm Reduction Centre, and have worked with Best Buddies on the campus as well. I am very excited to be leading the therapy group on depression, as it is something I have battled with myself and hold extreme empathy for. Outside of school I do a lot of art, plant care, and thrifting, which are some of my own ways I have found to practice mindfulness. I believe in expressing your truest and most authentic self and am working towards finding mine everyday. I have always been drawn towards counselling psychology having benefited from it personally, and I am planning on pursuing my masters in it. I am from Calgary, currently residing in Victoria, and am loving the greenness and lack of cold weather. I love my little community I have created on the island and am hoping to share that community with all of you!
Depression Support Group:
Hey there! My name is Kellye (she/they) and I am in my second year pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Psychology.
My journey into mental health advocacy began during my own struggles in early high school, which is a big part of the reason why I joined the PSC. I understand how difficult it might be to reach out for help regarding mental health. As a support group facilitator, my goal is to foster an environment where everyone feels comfortable sharing their experiences and feelings. Let’s support each other and create a positive community together! Outside of school and work, you might find me drawing, exploring new cafes with friends, and going on long nature walks while taking an absurd amount of pictures (of plants, animals, fungi, you name it!!).
Anxiety Support Group:
Hello! My name is Kelsey, and I am a third-year psychology student who wants to become a counsellor. In my free time, I love hiking, painting, and, more recently, making pottery 🙂 Currently, my favorite coping skill for anxiety is disconnecting from technology and getting outside in nature. I am always searching for new grounding techniques to help manage anxiety, and I love learning new skills to add to my toolkit!
Anxiety Support Group:
Hi! My name is Saba, and I use she/her pronouns. I am in my fourth year studying psychology and am very grateful to have grown up on the unceded territories of the lək̓ʷəŋən and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples.
I am deeply passionate about mental health and dedicated to breaking the stigma surrounding it. Having experienced my own challenges with anxiety as a student, I am especially committed to creating a compassionate, non-judgmental space where others can navigate their mental well-being. My goal is to foster a sense of community where people can connect, share, and grow together.
In my free time, I love reading, ice skating, volunteering, hiking, and spending time with loved ones!
Life of Student Support Group:
Hi! I’m Talya and I’m a second-year Psychology student from Vancouver. I use she/her pronouns and am extremely excited to be volunteering with the Peer Support Centre, as well as very grateful to have the opportunity to do this on the unceded lands of the lək̓ʷəŋən and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples.
I’m passionate about mental health education and providing support for others, and am looking forward to facilitating discussions and activities on these topics. Outside of school, I enjoy reading, writing, and baking terrible mug cakes (if that counts as baking)!
Life of Student Support Group:
Hi! My name is Jayde, my pronouns are she/her, and I am in my 4th year of psychology at Uvic. In my spare time, I enjoy going to the beach, playing volleyball, and cooking/baking. I know how hard it can be to find balance between the demands of a personal, student, and work life, and am passionate about supporting students who may be struggling with their own mental health and well-being, especially amongst hectic schedules. I am so excited to be a support group facilitator and help create an inclusive, fun, and relaxed on-campus space where students can come to de-stress and chat about anything on their mind!
Art For The Heart Group:
Hello, my name is Emily and my pronouns are she/her. I am a 3rd year psychology student who is passionate about making mental health support more accessible and I enjoy doing artsy things. In my free time, I like to make crafts, cook, go thrifting and watch movies.
Art For The Heart Group:
Hi! I’m Sim! I’m in my 3rd year of Psych at UVic. Mental health has always been important to me because I believe it impacts everyone and we can all benefit from some support. In my free time (that I fight UVic to get lol) I love to travel, sit by the ocean, listen to music, read, get tattoos, craft, learn fun random skills only to forget them the next day, nap and YAP! #loveagoodyap 🐇💜
