Global Village is back!
Join the Students of Colour Collective and the UVSS from February 2nd-6th at the SUB for Global Village – a week of cultural exhibition created to celebrate the cultural diversity at UVic and bring us closer together!
DAY 1: Mon, February 2nd
Bollywood Karaoke Night
Kick off Global Village with a night of music, dancing, and Bollywood hits!
Whether you’re a seasoned singer or just want to vibe with friends, come belt out your favorite songs and start off Global Village the right way.

DAY 2: Tue, February 3rd
The Pavilions: Walk Around the World and Global Kitchen
A tabling fair that allows you to visit different countries, learn about the traditions, experience snippets of their cultures, all in one room!
When: 10:00am – 3:00pm

Global Kitchen
We will be hosting a free lunch of cultural dishes. The lunch will be prepared by student chefs, who will then present a short talk on the cultural history of the dish and their personal connection to it. The student chefs and dishes will be a surprise for eager foodies, so be sure to be there!

Register here if you are a student or club who would like set up an interactive booth to share your culture with the community through clothes, books, games or something else. Register here if you are a vendor or community organization seeking to share information to students, especially to international students.
DAY 3: Wed, February 4
Between Places, Between Feelings: The Meaning of Home
What does it mean to call multiple places “home”? Join us for a thought-provoking panel discussion exploring the complex experiences of belonging, displacement, and the emotional connections we form with the places we’ve lived.
When: 2:00pm-4:00pm

Around the World Board Game Night at the SUB Upper Lounge
Ready to play? Join us for an evening of games from cultures around the world!
From strategy games to card games, board games to party games: discover how different cultures play, compete, and connect. Whether you’re a competitive player or just looking for a fun night with friends, there’s something for everyone.
When: 5:00pm-8:00pm

Before the Rain Falls: An Immersive Pre-Show Installation
Umbrella of Hope: A suspended umbrella above a small bench, with strings of paper butterflies and raindrops cascading from it. The phrase “Before the rain falls…” invites passersby to pause, look up, and feel protected.
Letters Reflection Box & wall
A beautiful wooden box and large board with pens and cards where participants anonymously respond to prompts such as: What do you carry that no one sees? What does “home” mean to you right now? What rain have you survived? These letters can later be used (with consent) in future lobby installations or storytelling archives.

PULSE: ART EXHIBITION
PULSE Art Exhibition showcases visual art that reflects the cultural identities, experiences, and perspectives of our campus community. From paintings and photography to mixed media and digital art, witness how culture shapes creativity and how art bridges worlds.

PULSE: Showcase
This year, SOCC has decided to reimagine its annual PULSE Zine as a variety showcase! Come by for an evening of live music, poetry, spoken word and art from artists that work at the intersection of cultural identity and artistic expression!

DAY 5: Fri, February 6
More Than a Seat at the Table: BIPOC Voice and Structural Change
Join us for a critical conversation about representation and voice on campus. BIPOC students, faculty, and staff will share their experiences navigating institutional spaces and discuss moving beyond the tokenism of BIPOC people and towards meaningful visibility and structural change.
